Gran Turismo 7 – Just One Year Away?

Published - 22 Nov 2013

Back in September, we posted a first story on Kazunori Yamauchi hinting at the possiblity of Gran Turismo 7 on Playstation 4 not being too far away.

It seems that there was a lot of merrit to this as Yamauchi has once again spoken about Gran Turismo 7 being a lot closer than many people might expect:

“We don’t want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7,” Kazunori told Top Gear. “Best-case scenario? Next year. In GT6 we really had to tune the software 100 per cent to maximise the PS3′s architecture, but of course the PS4′s hardware is much better, so I think the overall quality of the game across the board will be boosted when you come to play it.”

While the GT creator is currently busy promoting the upcoming release of Gran Turismo 6 on the Playstation 3, work on the PS4 version is already well underway as a tech demo has already been spotted by industry insider Ahsan Rasheed:

GT 7 tech demo. Nothing to describe other than it looked amazing. It was snowing and at night. Cockpit view, then turned to outside the car.

Gran Turismo 7 – “Out in Year or Two”

Published - 13 Sep 2013

Both Sony and Microsoft launch their brand new consoles this winter, the companies have different strategies regarding their marquee racing titles though.

While Microsoft wants Forza Motorsport 5 to be a launch title for the new Xbox One at all costs (so much that most of the game will actually have to be downloaded off the internet to allow a maximum of development time until the launch), Sony’s Gran Turismo will make one more visit to the trusted PS3 platform.

This does not mean that Playstation 4 buyers will have to wait very long for Gran Turismo to get the next-gen treatment as well as GT series creator Kazunori Yamauchi revealed the following in an interview with the Japanese Famitsu magazine:

The PlayStation 4 game which we’ll likely call GT7 will be done in about a year or two, I think, and I think the community aspect’s going to be vital there as well.

A release of Gran Turismo 7 within the next two years would be a significant step up in development pace as three years passed between GT5 and GT6 while the platform change from Gran Turismo 4 (Playstation 2) to GT5 took even six years to complete.
